Prognosis

Worse for females, increased age, severe or recurrent injury, and associated neck pain.

Recovery from an uncomplicated tendinosis is 6-8 weeks, and full recovery from a chronic, complicated tendinosis is 3-6 months.

Recovery from tendinitis is around 2 weeks or less.

If conservative management fails after 3-6 months and all options have been exhausted, surgical intervention will most likely be advised.  However, election and timing of surgery is made on a case by case scenario
