Risk Factors 

  • Females more than males 
  •  Age: 40 or older, however tendinopathies can occur at any age
  • Diabetes
  • Heavy lifting
  • Activities/Professions that involve repetitive overhead arm motion (athletes in overhead sports, construction workers or hairdressers for example)
  • Weakness or imbalance of shoulder muscles
  • Glenohumeral instability
  • Muscle tightness
  • Poor scapula control
  • Poor posture: may allow pinching of muscle or tendon against bones of shoulder

  • Possible genetic component
